2000 Vintage

Our first ever bottling vintage from our by now, 5 year old vines. The 2000 vintage was a long cool low yielding year. At Lost Valley all of our varieties yield at or below, 2.5 tonnes per acre, with the outcome being wines of great elegance, balanced flavour and soft tannins.

2001 Vintage

The 2001 vintage had almost perfect ripening conditions. In some cases the grapes ripened almost too fast. This vintage made big riper style wines with excellent structure and higher alcohol levels. Excellent for laying down of the reds as they will be very long lived.

2002 Vintage

The 2002 vintage was a wet, cool, long vintage. Like the 2000 vintage if the vineyard had been carrying large crops, they would have had ripening problems. As it was, yields were naturally low; indeed in the case of the Merlot they were at less than 1 tonne per acre.

2003 Vintage

The 2003 vintage was one of drought. Like the 2001 vintage, the fruit was both big and ripe albeit with very low yields, especially in the Shiraz with less than 0.8tonnes per acre. Nonetheless the results were overall good with exceptional flavours, balanced tannins and high alcohols.

2004 Vintage

The perfect year.  A long, mild growing season with heat and rain just at the right times. The outcome – wines of excellent balance, fruit integration and perfect alcohol levels, to ensure both taste and long life across all varietals. The Shiraz is without doubt the varietal that benefited most this vintage, producing the most singular flavours thus far.

2005 Vintage

A little drier than the 2004 vintage but also cooler, resulting in each varietal being picked almost two weeks later than the preceding year. The outcome was that of  different flavour spectrums to that of the 04 vintage, with some varied and yet still delightful varietal characteristics coming through. This nowhere else more evident than with the 05 Merlot which is an absolute stunner.

2006 Vintage
What started as drought ended as an excellent year. Rain in february just when needed, ensured that the fruit received the right balance of sunshine, stress and water - and all at the right times. This is demonstrated in the excellent fruit in all four varietals and yet the low sugar levels; resulting in a complexity of flavours that truly complement the balance and length of heach varietal.

2007 Vintage

A year that can only be termed as "character building". Dought and more drought, reputedly the worst in 100years!! The Lost Valley vineyard survived remarkably well however. Our mineral drinking water quality bore saved us, even though it almost finished our Vineyard manager Paul with all of the stresses of keeping it going day and night. The result was fruit of intense quality and a yield of circa 85% of normal. Not bad at all we think. Conversely our associate Mount Buller site caught the full force. Drought, fires and lack of water for almost three months. A very tought season which all but wiped out the crop from this site.

2008 Vintage
An exciting and picture perfect season. rain at the right time, sunshine when we most wanted it and wonderful fruit set. Both vineyards were on cue all the time and the result was sublime fruit. Watch this vintage for one to savour.
